On this camping safari you will experience it all! From fantastic wildlife to impressive landscapes and meeting the local people. You will visit the highlights of northern Tanzania such as Tarangire National Park, Lake Natron, Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. Something unique in this safari is the “off the beaten track” trip to Lake Natron, offering you a real sense of adventure.
After a short briefing in the morning at your hotel, you will head to Tarangire National Park for game drive which is about three hours from Arusha to the main gate. The park is rich in large herds of elephants per squire kilometres, also home to buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, waterbucks, greater and lesser kudus, elands, fringe-eared oryx, lions, cheetahs, leopards, and sometimes wilddogs can also be seen. On top of that, Tarangire has been decorated by massive and unique baobab trees which makes Tarangire to be so special in its landscape.
The park ranges from Savannah, short grass lands, seasonal swamps and lagoons. Most of the animals gather at the life-giving Tarangire River which is source of underground water especially during the dry season. At this time, most of the elephants dig some holes in the river bed to get some water. This has been the reason why most of the animals roam around the river during the dry season. At the main gate, your driver guide will sort out the formalities of your entry. Proceed with game drive until lunch time on which you can have it at the picnic site which is near by you at that particular time. There after, keep on driving for more views of wildlife until evening where you will end at the tented camp for overnight in full board basis.
After breakfast you will leave the Park for Lake Natron where you will pass through the multicultural village of Mto wa Mbu and you will keep on driving on a spectacular and very bumpy gravel road along the Rift Valley Escarpment. It is a bit tiring but as you are driving along the rift, suddenly the view of Mount Oldonyo Lengai (the holy Mountain) will appear and here your tiresome will immediately disappear as it is amazing with its spectacular terrain. Today’s destination is the beautiful Masai village of Ngare Sero, an oasis in the hot and dusty Rift Valley. In the distance you will notice a pink glow from thousands of flamingos feeding (on the green algae for lesser flamingos and micro-organisms for greater flamingos) of the alkaline Lake Natron which is their special breeding site. After your arrival at the camp, later on in the afternoon the Maasai guide will lead you to a walk in Ngare Sero Waterfalls which will take you about 45 minutes toget there where you can swim. It is a bit tough hiking as you will sometimes go through in and out of water in some points. There after make your way back to the camp for full board overnight and make sure that you tip your guide accordingly.
After an early breakfast, you will drive along adventurous dirt tracks with breath-taking views as get at the top of the Rift Valley you can have a brief stop to view the whole lake behind you. Then proceed via Waso town through unique landscape of Ololeswokani village where you will check in to Serengeti through Kleins gate in the North-east part of the park. We expect you to get at the camp around lunch time. The word Serengeti means endless plains in the Maasai language, it is about 14,700 Square kilometres. Serengeti landscape varies from short grass land plains, savannahs, series of hills and famous and unique rocks known as kopjes, which are the outstanding extrusive features which were completely burried underneath formed from volcanic eruption and were excavated by erosion agents. Serengeti is the most famous park in Tanzania and it is home to the famous animal migration on the planet hundreds of thousands of wildbeests which make a huge cycle around the entire park looking for green pastures, water and the calving ground, the area where they give birth to the young ones. Between December and May huge herds of Zebras and wildebeests will be roaming around with calves and foals being born between January and March. You will overnight at the campsite in the northern or central part of the park. All meals wil be provided at the camp.
The entire day will be detected by game movements in the Park. You can decide to go for full day game drive or you can break the day into two where you can go for morning game drive and come back for hot lunch, have a siesta and go out for evening game drive around Seronera. Overnight at the camp around Seronera. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
The morning is set aside for another game drive in the Serengeti and you might spot some creatures that you haven’t seen yet. Animals tend to be more active in the morning before the temperatures soar around midday. After lunch, you will leave the plains of Serengeti to the highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where you will camp on the edge of the Crater Rim. Here the crater view is amazing and you will never get tired of watching it. It is a perfect spot to enjoy a sundowner at sunset. Just to remind you, most of the time in the morning and evening it becomes chilly and fog, so it is advised to have warm clothes. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Rise and shine! It is up at daybreak to take on the steep path leading down into the crater floor. The slopes are forested but soon the landscape changes to savannah with the occasional acacia trees here and there. The wildlife in the crater is just breath-taking, depending on your luck you might see the Big Five lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. It is possible also to see spotted hyenas, jackals, warthogs, wildebeests, zebras, hippos but excluding giraffes as it is not proper habitat which can provide enough field for them to feed on due to the nature of the crater floor formation on which does not support the growth of browsing trees eg acacias. And also some of more than 300 bird species can be found in the area. In the Crater is only the reliable place where the black rhino is likely to be spotted. After the morning game viewing and a picnic lunch in the crater, you will take the ascend road out of the crater to drive to Mto wa Mbu where you will overnight at the campsite. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
NB: The Ngorongoro Crater is the most impressive and remarkable geological features in Africa which is about 260 sq. kilometres with a height of 600m deep and 20km across. This huge caldera was created by super volcano believed to erupt about 2 to 2.5 millions years ago and it was believed to be a huge mountain than Mount Kilimanjaro.
After the breakfast with lunch boxes, drive back to Arusha, where your driver will drop you either at the Airport or in the hotel in Arusha. Today, you will say bye to your guide and the cook and it is a right time to make them to smile by tiping them. Enjoy your trip.
